BRUNSWICK — Cesar V. Bello, age 81 of Riverview Drive died peacefully Friday, January 20th at Freeport Nursing Center. He was born in Santa, Ilocos Sur, Philippines on December 5, 1935, the son of Lucio and Josefa Villaruz Bello. Cesar attended schools in Santa and Far Eastern University, Manila, Philippines.

On July 20, 1967, he married Shirley M. Adams in Woonsocket, Rhode Island. He became a U.S. Citizen in 1970. They settled in Brunswick in 1980.

Mr. Bello joined the U.S. Navy in 1960 as a cook. He retired from the Navy in 1980 as a 1st Class Petty Officer. He then worked as a cook at Regional Memorial Hospital, L.L.Bean’s Beanery cafeteria and Parkview Hospital. Cesar retired from Parkview Hospital in 1997.

Cesar especially enjoyed cooking the foods from his native Philippines.

He was an avid fan of boxing, the Red Sox, Celtics and Patriots. He loved ocean fishing in his younger days.

Cesar is survived by his wife of 49 years, Shirley. A daughter Cynthia Skidgel and her husband David of Yarmouth. A son 1st Class Petty Officer Robert Bello and his wife Faith and their children Serena, Lucas and Aidan stationed in Jacksonville, Florida, along with several nieces and nephews in the Philippines.

He was predeceased by two sisters, Guadalupe and Carmen.

The family would like to thank the staffs of CHANS Home Health & Hospice, Mid- Coast Hospital, Freeport Nursing Center, and New England Cancer Specialists for their excellent care during Cesar’s illness.

A committal service with military honors will be held at 10 AM Tuesday, May 2nd at The Maine Veterans Memorial Chapel 163 Mt. Vernon Road, Augusta.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Mid Coast Chapter of the American Red Cross 16 Community Way, Topsham, Maine 04086. Arrangements are by Stetson’s Funeral Home 12 Federal St. Brunswick where memorial condolences may be expressed at stetsonsfuneralhome.com.
