TORONTO — James van Riemsdyk scored his second goal with 1:36 remaining in regulation, breaking a tie and lifting the Toronto Maple Leafs to a 6-5 win over the Boston Bruins.

William Nylander scored three goals and Auston Matthews had three assists for the Maple Leafs, who opened a 4-1 lead and chased starting goalie Tuukka Rask in the second period.

David Pastrnak scored two goals for the Bruins, while Patrice Bergeron had a goal and two assists. Bergeron tied the game with 2:54 remaining.

KINGS 1, FLYERS 0: Peter Budaj posted his NHL-leading seventh shutout, Jeff Carter scored midway through overtime at Philadelphia and Los Angeles won its fifth straight.

Budaj, who wasn’t even on the Kings’ roster on opening night, extended his shutout streak to 144 minutes, 5 seconds. He made 17 saves.

Anze Kopitar set up the winning goal at 2:35 of overtime with a backhand pass across the crease to Carter, who whizzed a wrist shot past Michal Neuvirth.

It was the 27th goal of the season for Carter, who entered trailing Sidney Crosby of Pittsburgh by two goals for the NHL lead.

Neuvirth made 27 saves for Philadelphia, including a sensational glove stop in the second period.

CAPITALS 3, CANADIENS 2: Nicklas Backstrom scored in the third period at Montreal as Washington won the third and final meeting between the teams this season.

Jay Beagle and Andre Burakovsky also scored for Washington (35-11-6).

Braden Holtby stopped 19 shots. He’s won his last 10 starts.

Alexander Radulov and Max Pacioretty scored for Montreal (30-16-7). Carey Price made 27 saves.

AVALANCHE 4, JETS 2: Jarome Iginla had a goal and an assist, and Colorado won at Denver.

Matt Nieto scored twice and Matt Duchene added three assists, helping Colorado stop a nine-game losing streak. Nathan MacKinnon and Carl Soderberg also scored, and Calvin Pickard had 23 saves.

SABRES 4, SENATORS 0: Robin Lehner made 37 saves, Kyle Okposo scored his 16th goal and Buffalo won at home to snap a three-game skid.

The Sabres also got goals from Ryan O’Reilly, Sam Reinhart and Marcus Foligno. Jack Eichel had two assists.

Lehner got his fourth career shutout and first this season. His first two came with the Senators, who traded him to Buffalo before last season.

Mike Condon allowed four goals on 25 shots before getting pulled in the third period. The Senators have lost 4 of 6.

Buffalo is 5-0-1 in its last six home games and has earned a point in seven straight games against Ottawa.

Devils 5, Blue Jackets 1: Taylor Hall scored twice, Travis Zajac had a goal and an assist and New Jersey won at Columbus.

Jacob Josefson and Seth Helgeson also scored and Cory Schneider had 31 saves for the Devils, who won their sixth straight road game.
