Re: “Federal agency makes it clear: Even legal marijuana users can’t buy guns” (Jan. 27):

Enough of the facade. The folks who have promoted the enrichment of life through intoxication – the recreational use of marijuana – are now claiming to fight for Second Amendment rights based on changes to Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives Form 4473.

We need to recognize the true basis for their tireless motivation to promote the recreational use of marijuana – big business and profit. That is, to generate wealth from this new industry through the production, distribution and sale of marijuana.

Now that they have gained state approval here through the referendum process, they need to expand the focus of these incredible energies to national approval and expansion of the marketplace – more wealth. Their press to gain approval and promote recreational use of marijuana in Maine and the nation is driven by the enrichment of their wallets.

It is time for Maine to fix the referendum process. It has now become just another means to promote business at society’s cost. Casino, anyone?
