The U.S. Senate Tuesday voted to confirm Betsy DeVos as secretary of education. The Senate’s vote resulted in a 50-50 tie, requiring Vice President Mike Pence to cast the tie-breaking vote.
Maine’s Susan Collins was one of two Republicans (with Lisa Murkowski of Alaska) to break ranks and vote against the nominee.
