Do you remember how much you spent on your annual physical this year? I do. It cost you nothing, thanks to the Affordable Care Act.

How about your screening mammogram or colonoscopy? They also were free, for the same reason.

Everyone has a stake in keeping that law, because we all save money on preventive health care regardless of our insurance carrier. That is on top of other provisions in the law, such as the ability to keep young adults on our policies until age 26, and the requirement to cover pre-existing conditions.

But here is the biggest reason why we all benefit: It saves us money to have more people insured. People who lose insurance are more likely to end up with serious health problems that are treated at the hospital, and we will all pick up the tab in higher hospital costs.

Sen. Susan Collins, please vote to keep the Affordable Care Act intact.
