WESTBROOK — The Westbrook Music Boosters is hosting a jazz festival the first weekend in March.

The boosters on March 4 will host a Maine Band Director’s Association jazz festival at Westbrook High School. Around 20 high school bands will perform throughout the day.

“It’s a lot of fun,” said Matt Stacki, president of the Westbrook Music Boosters. “It’s good because bands come from all over the state.”

Stacki said his group has hosted the festival for the past few years and is excited to do it again. Tickets will be available at the door for about $5.

The festival will start at 9 a.m. with a combo 2 performance. Combo 1 will perform at 10 a.m., jazz choir at 11:30 a.m., jazz ensemble at 1 p.m. and jazz band at 3 p.m. At noon, there will be a performance by the Portland Jazz Orchestra.

Judges will critique the high school performers and offer feedback even though “it’s more of a festival, not a competition,” Stacki said. He said the feedback helps the students prepare for upcoming competitions.

The Westbrook Music Boosters are still looking for volunteers to help set up the event. The group is also looking for donations of food and bottled water for the concessions stand.

Stacki said and the rest of the boosters are looking forward to bringing so many different performers to Westbrook.

“It’s a good mix and you get to see some of the best music,” he said.
