The Fayette Planning Board has concluded that the length of the state moratorium on retail marijuana sales should be sufficient for Fayette to deal with the issue and will recommend the same to the Board of Selectmen.
The planners met last week and voted 4-0 to make the recommendation, said Mark Robinson, town manager.
In late January, Gov. Paul LePage signed a bill delaying retail marijuana sales in Maine until February 2018 to give regulatory agencies time to craft and implement rules governing the industry.
Robinson said the town Planning Board members will work in the coming months to decide what kind of rules should govern retail marijuana establishments in the town, if they are permitted at all.
“Whatever the final decision is, it will be presented to voters at the November (2017) election,” Robinson said. “The good news is we have seven months to prepare.”
Robinson said the recommendation could come in the form of a separate ordinance or as amendments to the town’s Land Use Ordinance.
