A man was killed in a fire at the Pikes Farms apartment complex at 116 High St. in Bridgton Friday night.

Randall Harmon, 73, a resident at the complex, was found on the floor of the living room by firefighters called to the blaze just after 7:30 p.m.

Smoking is suspected as the cause of the fire, the State Fire Marshal’s Office said.

Investigators said Harmon probably fell asleep in a chair with a cigarette, which ignited his clothes.

Damage was confined to Harmon’s apartment, investigators said.

The occupants of the seven other apartments in the building were alerted by smoke detectors and left the building without injury.
