BIDDEFORD  — Sister Alice Beauchemin, formerly known as Sister Marie-Yvonne, died at St. Joseph Convent on March 13, 2017, at the age of 94.  

She was the second in a family of five children born to Phillippe Beauchemin and Marie-Rose Hétu Beauchemin. Sister Alice was born in Central Falls, Rhode Island, on June 5, 1922. Later, the family moved to Pawtucket, Rhode Island, where she received her elementary education at St. Cécile School, followed by her high school education at St. John the Baptist Academy.

In 1947, Alice entered the Congregation of the Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, also known as the Good Shepherd Sisters of Quebec, in Biddeford, Maine. After her initial training in religious life, she prepared for her teaching career by attending Good Shepherd Teacher Training Classes in Bay View, Saco, Maine. This was followed by a year at the Good Shepherd Scholasticate in Quebec City.  She earned her bachelor’s degree in Education from St. Joseph College in Windham, Maine. 

Her teaching career of 27 years took her to St. Theresa School in Methuen, Massachusetts, St. Joseph School in Biddeford and Old Town, Maine, and to Donelson, Tennessee. She also taught in Lincoln School, Grand Isle, Maine.

In 1977, Sister Alice left teaching to take accounting courses at the University of Maine and began working in the business office at St. André Health Care Facility, Biddeford, Maine, and then in the Medical Records Department. Sister Alice retired in 2003 from St. André Health Care Facility. She then rendered service as receptionist and sacristan at St. Joseph Convent. Due to failing health, she was transferred to the Good Shepherd Pavilion section of St. Joseph Convent during the summer of 2010. 

Survivors include one brother, Wilfrid and his wife, Rita, of Attleboro, Massachusetts, and several nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will be held at St. Joseph Convent, 409 Pool St., Biddeford, Maine, from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. March 17, 2017. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph Convent at 1:30 p.m. March 17. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Biddeford, Maine.
