WISCASSET

Anna McDougal of Wiscasset is headed to the Special Olympics in Austria to compete in Alpine Skiing.

McDougal has been with Special Olympics for nine years and has been skiing for four.

“It means a lot to me to be a part of a team,” McDougal said. “I can’t wait to represent the love of skiing and educate the love of skiing.”

McDougal works at Spindle Works Art Center in Brunswick, where she does ceramics and other artistic activities. McDougal enjoys stitching needlepoint, surfing online, emailing friends, listening to music and going on walks. She’s also published a memoir called “A Look Back.”

Skiing, though, is now her favorite thing to do. She’s very excited to be representing Maine and she’s looking forward to traveling overseas. She’ll be eyeing another gold medal.

“Going through the gate downhill is an awesome feeling,” McDougal said. “Skiing is a part of me, it’s everything!”

The Special Olympics kick off this week and run through March 25.
