BIDDEFORD — University of New England sophomore forward Brady Fleurent has been selected a finalist for the Sid Watson Award, given annually to the best NCAA III men’s ice hockey player in the country.
Fleurent is one of seven finalists for the prestigious award. The Commonwealth Coast Conference Player of the Year joins Evan Buitenhuis (Hamilton), Stephen Collins (SUNY Geneseo), Dominik Gabaj (Nazareth), Colin Larkin (UMass Boston), Jack Lewis (Lake Forest) and Thomas Williams (St. Thomas) as finalists.
Fleurent is the lone sophomore in the group, with four being seniors and two juniors.
Sponsored by the American Hockey Coaches Association (AHCA), the Sid Watson Award honors the memory of former Bowdoin College head coach and director of athletics Sid Watson. A three-time AHCA Coach of the Year, Watson served Bowdoin for more than 30 years, winning 326 games in 24 seasons as head coach.
