BRUNSWICK — Alexander “Alex” Chop, 29, passed away unexpectedly on April 4, 2017 at his home in Brunswick. He was born in Brunswick on Sept 15, 1987 to Walter and Gail Chop.

Known for his warm and generous heart, silly sense of humor, and infectious smile, Alex loved his family, friends, his girlfriend, Britteny, and numerous pets, including his dog, Bullet. He loved being outdoors in his native Maine, snowshoeing, hiking, sailing, and exploring Maine’s craggy coast by boat. Alex also loved music, movies and photography and had an innate ability to capture and transform a seemingly mundane landscape. Alex had a knack for finding hidden beauty everywhere.

Alex attended Brunswick Schools and went on to further his education at Southern Maine Community College. For the past few years, Alex worked at Wicked Joe Coffee in Topsham, where he acquired a vast understanding of sustainable coffee growing, roasting and fair trade practices. He took pride in his job and loved his colleagues.

His sweet disposition made him loved by all he met. One friend stated that “he could give you a smirk or funny look and make the whole room burst into laughter.” Another said “his heart was more plentiful than one could ever understand.” As the wizard said to the Tin Man, “remember my sentimental friend, a heart is not judged by how much you love but by how much you are loved by others.” This typified Alex with the addition of the fact that he loved others, as well.

Survived by his loving parents Walter and Gail Chop, sister Jenny Burnell and her husband Shawn, brother Chris Chop and his wife, niece and nephew Hadley and Parker Burnell. In addition, Alex is survived by his maternal Grandfather, William Craig, and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Visiting hours will be Saturday, April 8 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Brackett Funeral Home, 29 Federal Street, Brunswick. A memorial Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, April 9 at 10:30 AM in the Morrell meeting Room (entrance on Middle Street) of the Curtis Memorial Library in Brunswick.

In lieu of flowers please make a donation in Alex’s name to: The Coastal Humane Society, 190 Pleasant St., Brunswick or The Brunswick- Topsham Land Trust, 56 Maine St, Brunswick, Maine 04011.
