GORHAM — Andrew Olszak drove in the go-ahead run with a two-run single in the second inning Tuesday and the University of Southern Maine went on to a 4-2 victory against UMass-Boston in a Little East Conference baseball game.

The Huskies (18-7, 7-0) scored three runs in the inning to take a 3-1 lead.

Tom Fortier picked up the win against the Beacons (17-9, 4-3), allowing two runs on seven hits, striking out seven in eight innings.

Dylan Hapworth and Jake Dexter each had a pair of hits for USM, which added a run in the eighth for a 4-1 lead.

ST. JOSEPH’S 11, ENDICOTT 1: Noah McDaniel singled home a run as part of a five-run third inning as the Monks (22-4) cruised past the Seagulls (14-13) at Standish.

The Monks led 5-1 after three innings and tacked on six in the fifth, including Dennis Meehan’s RBI double.

HUSSON 6, COLBY 4: Alex Chapman singled home Ryan Rebar in a three-run fifth inning and the Eagles (16-12) held off the Mules (7-17) at Waterville.

Rebar reached on a fielder’s choice that scored Logan Rogerson to break a 2-2 tie. Chapman’s RBI single gave Husson a 5-2 lead.

MAINE 11, THOMAS 3: Colin Ridley hit a grand slam in the fourth inning and the Black Bears (13-17) downed the Terriers (3-24) at Orono.

Ridley’s grand slam gave the Black Bears to 8-1 after four innings.

SOFTBALL

SOUTHERN MAINE, PLYMOUTH STATE SPLIT: Allison Pillar singled in the winning run in the ninth inning as the Huskies (10-11, 3-3 Little East) won the opener 2-1 over the Panthers (14-14, 4-4) at Gorham.

Pillar also singled home Brooke Cross to give the Huskies a 1-0 lead in the second.

The Panthers took the second game, 7-2.

BATES, UNIVERSITY OF NEW ENGLAND SPLIT: Sydney Helmbrecht doubled home the winning run in the eighth inning to give the Nor’easters (10-12) a 4-3 win over the Bobcats (7-9) in the second game at Biddeford.

Bates led 3-2 going into the seventh but Sarah Lachapelle singled home Sydnee Bessler in the bottom of the inning for UNE. Andrea Russo had three hits and drove in a run for Bates, which won the first game, 3-1.

BOWDOIN SWEEPS ST. JOSEPH’S: Alison Rutz hit a two-run single as part of a four-run second inning as the Polar Bears (22-6) beat the Monks (9-12) 9-5 in the first game at Standish.

Bowdoin scored six run in the first and totaled 17 hits to win the second game, 11-0.

Ali Miller, Marisa O’Toole and Lauren O’Shea had three hits in the second game for Bowdoin.

MEN’S LACROSSE

BATES 19, TUFTS 18: Charlie Fay and Matt Chlastawa each scored six goals as the second-ranked Bobcats (11-0, 8-0 NESCAC) beat the third-ranked Jumbos (11-2, 6-2) at Medford, Massachusetts.

LASELL 13, ST. JOSEPH’S 4: Ryan Madden had five goals and four assists as the Lasers (9-3, 6-0 Great Northeast Athletic) beat the Monks (4-8, 2-4) at Portland.

Michael Finn and Matt Donell each scored two goals to lead the Monks. Brendan Barrett had two assists.

WOMEN’S LACROSSE

TUFTS 13, BATES 10: Emily Gaines scored six goals for the Jumbos (9-4, 4-4 NESCAC), who used five unanswered goals in the second half to get past the Bobcats (6-7, 1-7) at Lewiston.

Sydney Cowles scored three goals, and Allison Dewey and Camille Belletete each added two for Bates. Dewey made it 8-8 with her second goal of the game with 20:33 remaining, but Tufts then scored five straight.

PLYMOUTH STATE 15, SOUTHERN MAINE 5: Sam Sullivan scored seven goals as the Panthers (6-2, 3-0 Little East) pulled away from the Huskies (7-4, 1-3) at Gorham.

Sam Campobasso scored three goals for the Huskies.
