CINCINNATI — Bronson Arroyo gave the best performance of his long comeback, pitching three-hit ball over six innings Sunday as the Cincinnati Reds salvaged a 7-5 victory over the Chicago Cubs.

The 40-year-old Arroyo (2-2) allowed Anthony Rizzo’s two-run homer – his third of the series – and struck out seven batters for the first time since May 13, 2014. The lanky right-hander has needed more than two years to recover from Tommy John surgery.

Raisel Iglesias gave up a pair of runs in the ninth before finishing off the Reds’ 3-7 homestand.

Patrick Kivlehan’s bases-loaded double highlighted a four-run sixth inning off John Lackey (1-3) and decided a matchup of up-in-years starters.

CARDINALS 6, MARLINS 4: Mike Leake allowed two runs over six innings and drove in two runs to lead St. Louis to a victory in Milwaukee, the Cardinals’ sixth win in seven games.

PHILLIES 5, BRAVES 2: Cesar Hernandez, Aaron Altherr and Odubel Herrera hit consecutive homers in the eighth, Zach Eflin threw seven sharp innings and Philadelphia beat Atlanta to complete a three-game sweep at home.

ROCKIES 8, GIANTS 0: Kyle Freeland scattered six hits over seven sharp innings, Gerardo Parra hit a two-run homer and host Colorado beat San Francisco for a three-game sweep at Coors Field.

DODGERS 6, DIAMONDBACKS 2: Brandon McCarthy gave Los Angeles a much-needed strong start, Yasmani Grandal homered in a six-run fifth inning and the Dodgers avoided being swept in Phoenix.

MARLINS 7, PADRES 3: Justin Bour hit a three-run homer to cap the six-run sixth inning and help Miami to a win San Diego.

NATIONAL 6, METS 3: Daniel Murphy hit a grand slam in the first inning and Max Scherzer struck out nine in eight innings as Washington won in New York.

TIGERS 13, TWINS 4: John Hicks had three hits, including his first career homer, and drove in five runs to lead Michael Fulmer and Detroit to a victory in Minneapolis.

WHITE SOX 6, INDIANS 2: Melky Cabrera drove in a pair of runs, Derek Holland tossed six strong innings and Chicago busted out of an offensive funk for a victory at home over Cleveland.

ASTROS 6, RAYS 4: Brian McCann and Yuli Gurriel both had RBI singles in the 10th inning, and Houston rallied from an early four-run deficit to beat Tampa Bay in St. Petersburg, Florida.

BLUE JAYS 6, ANGELS 2: Marcus Stroman pitched a seven-hitter and Devon Travis hit a go-ahead, two-run homer during a four-run eighth inning in Toronto’s 6-2 victory in Anaheim, California.

RANGERS 5, ROYALS 2: Yu Darvish pitched eight innings in his longest outing since elbow surgery two years ago and Texas scored the tying and go-ahead runs without a hit, completing a four-game sweep with a win in Arlington, Texas.

MARINERS 11, ATHLETICS 1: Nelson Cruz homered and drove in five runs, Taylor Motter hit his first career grand slam and visiting Seattle routed Oakland.

INTERLEAGUE

PIRATES 2, YANKEES 1: Ivan Nova gained a measure of revenge over his old team, limiting New York to just four hits over seven innings as Pittsburgh held on for a victory at home.
