BUXTON — A Bonny Eagle High School junior, now a student representative to the SAD 6 School Board, is seeking a seat in the June election as a full-fledged member of the board.

Nathan Carlow of Buxton, who turns 18 on May 18, is running for a two-year term on the panel, challenging Ellen H. Decotiis, who was appointed to the School Board by Buxton selectmen in July 2016 to fill a vacancy. She is now seeking election to the post.

“Community feedback has been very receptive of the idea of a student being on the board,” Carlow said by telephone Tuesday.

“I’m running for SAD 6 School Board to give my peers a true seat at the table,” Carlow said in a Facebook posting. “If elected, I promise to ensure a quality education for all.”

Carlow is the son of Michele and Pete Boudreau of Buxton.

The nominations deadline for available Buxton municipal and School Board terms was Monday.

The School Board race is one of two contested races on the Buxton ballot. Incumbents Jean C. Harmon and Dennis Santolucito are facing challenger Julianna Poirier, an unsuccessful candidate in 2016, for a three-year term on the Board of Selectmen.

John L. Myers Jr. is unopposed for another term as town clerk. Arthur Payeur is seeking election to a three-year SAD 6 term now held by Ansel E. Stevens Jr. who will not be on the ballot. David Field is seeking the three-year term on the Planning Board; Payeur is the lone candidate for two years on the Buxton Budget Committee; but no one is seeking an available three-year term on the Budget Committee.

Carlow said Tuesday he hadn’t decided on a campaign strategy but plans to meet Thursday with a former SAD 6 School Board member and its past vice chairman, Jake Stoddard, seeking  guidance. Trevor Hustus of Hollis, a Bonny Eagle senior, has been named Carlow’s campaign manager. Hustus distributed a press release Tuesday about Carlow’s candidacy.

Buxton’s secret ballot election is set for Tuesday, June 13, with voting in Buxton Town Hall, 185 Portland Road.
