Emily Durgin of Standish and the University of Connecticut set a meet record Friday while winning the 10,000 meters at the American Athletic Conference track and field championships in Houston.
Durgin, a senior, surged ahead of Central Florida’s Anne-Marie Blaney on the final lap and won by three seconds with a time of 34 minutes, 28.06 seconds. She was chosen as the meet’s outstanding track performer, along with Tulane’s Jessica Duckett, the 100-meter hurdles champion.
Durgin helped the Huskies finish second in the overall standings, behind Cincinnati.
