SOUTH BERWICK — The Noble softball team grinded out a 2-1 win over visiting Massabesic in eight innings on Wednesday.

Tied 1-1 in the eighth, the Knights would manage to load up the bases, and would push the final run across the plate on a walked batter to secure the win.

Raegan Kelly led the Knights, pitching all eight innings and collecting 14 strikeouts while allowing just two hits. Kelly would also hit a double at the plate.

Grace Tutt took the circle for the Mustangs and also had a sharp performance, going the distance and picking up six strikeouts while only allowing four Noble hits.

Thornton Academy 20, Deering 4

A heavy-hitting performance propelled TA to a sound 20-4 win over Deering on Thursday.

Kaitlin Verreault led the way for the Trojans by picking up four runs, while Olivia Howe added three. Louisa Colucci, Amanda Bogardus and Jennica Botting also added two runs each on the afternoon. The Trojans finished the day with 10 hits at the plate.

Verreault got the win for TA in the circle, throwing for four innings and allowing four runs while collecting three strikeouts. Howe came on in relief and pitched three innings, allowing no hits and tallying a pair of strikeouts.

Portland 8, Biddeford 4

The Tigers dropped an 8-4 decision over visiting Portland on Wednesday afternoon.

Taylor Wildes would get an RBI early s on for Biddeford, followed by a two-run homerun from Alex Chase that scored Brook Davis. Abby O’Connor would add another homerun in the following at bat to cut the Portland lead to 5-4 in the fifth. The Bulldogs would extend its lead in the later innings and secure the win.

Katie Stewart took the loss in the circle for Biddeford, pitching all seven innings and striking out six.

Boys Tennis

Thornton Academy 5, Cheverus 0

The Thornton Academy boys tennis team extended its win streak and topped visiting Cheverus 5-0 to improve to 9-0 this spring.

The defending champions are undefeated, and have yet to lose a point this season as the playoffs approach.

Dariy Vykhodtsev won his singles match 6-0, 6-0 while Balasz Balati won 6-1, 6-1. Jack Xiao rounded things out with a 6-1, 6-4 singles win.

Asher Thompson and Adam Lovejoy continued to impress in doubles, winning Wednesday’s match 6-0, 6-1 while teammates Caleb Richard and John Ma took a 6-1, 6-1 decision.

Girls Tennis

Thornton Academy 4, Cheverus 1

The Trojans kept their undefeated record alive with a 4-1 win over host Cheverus on Wednesday. Eva Sachs won her singles match 6-2, 6-0 while teammate Emma Nassif took a 7-6, 6-3 decision. Brianna Paul would round up the singles portion with a 6-0, 6-0 sweep.

Iaryna Iasentska and Cordelia Perry would win their doubles match for TA 6-1, 6-1 while Kate Shedd and Ky Nguyen fell 7-5, 6-2.
