Late Monday afternoon, I drove to Brunswick for a dinner engagement at the home of friends.

Traffic was increasing on Interstate 295, in light but increasing rain. I saw at least three of those orange mobile trailer signs flashing the warning “Click It Or Ticket.” No doubt the Maine Department of Transportation placed those to remind and warn Memorial Day weekend drivers, both local and from out of state.

What I also saw a lot of were drivers in vehicles without their headlights turned on, in the rain.

Under Maine law, motorists are required to have their headlights on when they’re using their wipers or if visibility is less than 1,000 feet. I would sincerely ask the MDOT to set up some of those orange trailers on I-295 and Interstate 95 with the reminder: “Turn Headlights On In Rain & Fog.”
