PORTLAND

The Sea Dogs (25-30) used a nine-run eighth inning to propel themselves to a 14-8 Eastern League victory in the series finale over the Akron RubberDucks (26-29) in front of a sellout crowd Thursday afternoon at Hadlock Field.

Trailing 8-5 in the bottom of the eighth, Portland sent 12 batters to the plate and scored nine runs on eight hits, including a pair of three-run homers by Tzu- Wei Lin and Deiner Lopez. The Sea Dogs also set a franchise record with nine doubles in the game. Portland set season highs in doubles, runs scored in an inning, runs scored in a game, extrabase hits (10) and total bases (31).

Jacob Dahlstrand (W, 5-1) earned the victory, even after allowing Akron to take the lead for the first time with five runs in the top of the eighth. Dahlstrand worked 3 1/3 innings of relief to close out the game.

Francisco Mejia homered off of Kevin McAvoy (ND) in the first inning to plate the game’s first run. Portland answered with three runs in the bottom of the first on four doubles off of Nick Pasquale (ND).

McAvoy went 5 2/3 innings in the start for the Sea Dogs and allowed three runs on five hits while walking two and fanning a season-high seven.

Portland led 4-1 after five and 5-3 after six before Akron took an 8-5 lead in the top of the eighth. Mejia homered again in the inning and hit four long balls in the series.

Lin reached base five times and had a homer, two doubles, two walks, three RBIs and two runs scored. Jeremy Barfield and Nick Longhi each had two doubles apiece, while Lopez had three hits, three RBIs and three runs scored.

Portland opens a threegame series with the Erie Sea Wolves (Tigers affiliate) tonight at Hadlock Field, first pitch is 7 p.m. RHP Teddy Stankiewicz (2-3, 4.01) takes on RHP A.J. Ladwig (2-1, 4.56). Tickets are available at www.seadogs.com or by calling 879-9500.
