An Auburn police officer caught a small snake that provided a big fright to a man who found it stowed away in his car.

Officer Travis Barnies was dispatched to the call Tuesday afternoon and went above and beyond the call of duty in his response, according to a lighthearted Facebook post from the Auburn Police Department.

“Caller has a snake in his car and wants assistance removing it… caller is afraid of snakes and would rather burn the car than touch the snake,” a dispatcher told Barnies, according to police.

Police posted two photos: one showing the snake in the door of the car and the other with it draped over Barnies’ hands after the successful rescue.

The snake was released unharmed.
