AUGUSTA — Portland advanced to the championship game of the Babe Ruth baseball state tournament for 13- to 15-year-olds with a pair of wins Sunday, beating Apple Valley 9-2 and Sanford 4-1 to finish round-robin play with a 4-0 record.

Against Apple Valley, Portland got four hits from Chris Cimino, three each from Brian Riley and Nate Rogers and two from Luke Hill. Sonny Villani pitched a complete game.

Rogers drove in two runs and Cimino had two hits against Sanford. Garon Kelley pitched five innings and Hill earned the save.

The championship game is 4:30 p.m. Monday at Morton Field.

BABE RUTH 14-YEAR-OLDS

SOUTH PORTLAND WINS TWICE: Noah Lewis struck out four over five innings and added a pair of singles to lead South Portland to a 13-2 victory over Midcoast in Augusta.

South Portland defeated Portland 10-0 earlier in the day.

AUGUSTA 8, MIDCOAST 3: Kyle Douin had a single and a triple to lead Augusta past Midcoast in Augusta.

Luke Anderson and Logan DuPont added two singles each for Augusta.

TWILIGHT LEAGUE

EDGE ACADEMY 10, AERO H&V 5: Jake Shapiro hit two doubles as Edge (7-7) used a pair of four-run innings to pull away from Aero (9-7) in Cumberland.

Shapiro doubled home Harrison Vinal in the fourth inning as Edge took a 5-3 lead. He added a two-run double in the seventh.

Andrew Merlino finished with four hits. Nick Whitten had three hits for Aero, while Andrew Richards contributed a double and a triple.

PATRIOT INSURANCE 7, ON TARGET 3: Dustin McCrossin’s three-run homer gave Patriot Insurance (9-6) a 3-1 lead in the first inning of a win over On Target (4-11) in Cumberland.

Grayson Barresi doubled home a run and also scored to push the lead to 5-1 in the fourth.

EMPIRE LEAGUE

SULLIVAN 9, OLD ORCHARD BEACH 5: Samuel Carter hit a two-run homer in the top of the fourth inning and Sullivan (12-10) beat the Surge (11-11) in Old Orchard Beach.

Joe Fiorino had three RBI for Sullivan on a pair of singles.

Gevon Jackson hit a triple and scored on a groundout for OOB. Tony Bakeris and Kyle Schade each had two RBI, and Jake Walters had two hits and scored twice.

AMERICAN LEGION

COASTAL LANDSCAPE SWEEPS HIGHLAND GREEN: James Sinclair singled home Griffin Watson in the top of the first inning and Coastal (11-7) beat Highland Green (6-11) 1-0 in the first game of a doubleheader in Topsham.

Riley Bartell pitched a five-hitter for Coastal.

Dylan Francoeur scored on Tim Greenlaw’s sacrifice fly in the seventh inning as Coastal Landscape won the second game, 5-4.

JUNIOR LEGION

CAPE ELIZABETH, CHEBEAGUE ISLAND BOATYARD SPLIT: John Jordan singled home Jackson Caruso with the go-ahead run, and Luke Waeldner followed with a single to drive in Ethan Belesca, as Chebeague (12-4) used four consecutive singles to break a 5-5 tie in the bottom of the sixth and record a 7-5 victory in the opening game of a doubleheader in Yarmouth.

Cape Elizabeth (9-6) won the second game, 5-4. Cape scored the winning run in the seventh when Zach Johnson singled, stole second and third and scored on Ryan Oberholtzer’s misplayed bunt.
