Crews from six fire departments went to fight to a fire around noon Tuesday at a residence in Anson, but the building was a total loss.
The two-story house at 28 Quincy Wood Road was destroyed, according to Anson Fire Chief Daryel Partridge. Three state fire marshal’s officials arrived at the scene to investigate the blaze. Partridge said the home was owned by a man named Bruce Nelson, but the house was not occupied at the time of the fire.
Firefighting crews from Anson, Madison, Skowhegan, Norridgewock and Starks went to the fire while the Solon department stood by.
The fire response caused authorities in the area to close the road temporarily, according to dispatch reports.
The two-story house, which appeared to have had wooden shingles, was in a thickly wooded area on a dirt road. The building, which was thoroughly burned, still had a wall and two chimneys left standing Tuesday afternoon. Firefighters still were extinguishing hot spots. A pile of what looked like firewood sat outside the house.
Partridge said neighbors called around noon to report the fire, but he wasn’t sure what time it started. The chief said he had no idea what caused the fire. He called the house a “total loss.”
“It was a good size fire,” Partridge said.
One of the reasons so many crews responded was because of how hot the day was, Partridge said.
Sgt. Joel Davis, of the state fire marshal’s office, said investigators were looking at the scene, as they had been called in to review the fire. He said first responders said no one was home at the time of the fire. He said he didn’t know yet what had caused the fire.
“I don’t have much,” he said.
