Patricia Finnigan of Saco has been named the new Ogunquit town manager, the Select Board announced Wednesday.

Finnigan, who has more than 25 years of municipal experience, mostly recently served as town manager of Camden. She will fill the top Ogunquit position left vacant by the resignation of Thomas Fortier, who was charged with theft and official oppression after allegedly pocketing parking fees collected from visitors.

Charles Waite, Select Board chairman, said the search for a new town manager attracted 50 applicants from across the country. Finnigan was one of two finalists interviewed.

“The Select Board was pleased with the caliber of people this position attracted, which speaks well of Ogunquit,” Waite said in a statement. “Pat brings a depth of experience and a unique set of skills that will help us build upon the great thing Ogunquit has to offer and what we hope to accomplish in the future.”

Under a tentative contract agreement, Finnigan will receive a starting salary of $110,000. The Select Board is scheduled to vote on Finnigan’s contract during a special meeting Aug. 7 and she is scheduled to start Aug. 14.

Before serving as town manager in Camden, Finnigan was assistant city manager in Portland and assistant and city manager in Auburn. She holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Maine and has taken graduate courses at the Muskie School of Public Service at the University of Southern Maine.

“Ogunquit is a special place with a combination of natural beauty and resources, character and charm, and a diverse and engaged community, which are tremendous assets,” Finnigan said in a statement. “I look forward to working with the Select Board, the town employees and citizens to gain a better understanding of people’s goals and work together to achieve them.”
