A Winnebago traveling on the Maine Turnpike Tuesday afternoon blew a tire, causing the motor home to demolish 100 feet of guardrail and a car to flip over.

State police say Joseph Masterson, 74, of Polk City, Florida, was traveling south through Litchfield around 3 p.m. Tuesday when the right front tire blew, causing his motor home to swerve left into the median and strike the guardrail. Dirt and debris flew into the air, obscuring the view of 52-year-old Pauley Sanipass of New Brunswick, who was traveling south in a Chevrolet.

The Chevrolet also went into the median and rolled over, police said. Sanipass was taken to Maine General Hospital in Augusta with non-life-threatening injuries and was released a short time later.

No charges are anticipated, police said.
