WEST NEWFIELD — Ronald E. Baker, 84, of West Newfield, died on Saturday, Aug. 5, 2017, at Frisbee Memorial Hospital in Rochester.

Ronald was born in Locke Mills, Maine on March 14, 1933, to Alphonse and Fannie (Downs) Baker. He grew up in Bethel where he attended local schools. He proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. In 1954, he married Barbara Fisher and together they raised two children and shared 59 years of marriage before her death in 2013.

Ronald was employed for many years at Aerofab in Sanford before taking a position at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard where stayed until his retirement in 1995. He enjoyed working on various projects in his garage and around his house and had been a member of the Masons. Ronald will be remembered as a quiet man who enjoyed spending time at home with his family and will be dearly missed.

Ronald was predeceased: by his wife, Barbara Baker, and by his son, Paul W. Baker.

Surviving are: his daughter, Kathi Hartwell and her husband Mark of West Newfield; his granddaughter, Haleigh Marston of Limington; his great-granddaughter, McKenzie Cunningham of Limington; dear family friend, Diane Pray of Lebanon; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

A graveside service with military honors will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 14 at the Southern Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery located on Stanley Road in Springvale.
