A Fairfield woman was arrested Sunday morning on drug charges following a raid at her Main Street apartment.

Roxanne Mattson, 34, was arrested and charged with trafficking in crack cocaine, a Class B felony; four counts of possession of heroin, cocaine and hydrocodone, all Class C felonies; and possession of crack cocaine, Class B, according to Sheriff Dale Lancaster. Mattson is being held at the Somerset County Jail in East Madison on $10,000 cash bail.

The raid was carried out about 7:30 a.m. by a team of five county deputies, two Somerset County Detectives, Fairfield police Capt. Paul St. Amand and three Fairfield police officers, all led by Detective Lt. Carl Gottardi II, of the sheriff’s department.

Police also found two minor children in the apartment. The children were turned over to a family member, according to Lancaster.

Lancaster said Mattson allegedly had about 4 grams of crack cocaine, more than 4 grams of powder cocaine, a small amount of heroin, 16 hydrocodone pills, along with several other controlled pills, digital scales, drug related paraphernalia and drug related documents.

“She has prior drug possession convictions,” Lancaster said Monday. He said the possession charges were elevated because of the prior convictions.

Additional drug trafficking charges may be forthcoming, Lancaster said. Once other seized pills are identified, additional criminal charges also could be brought.

A man who lives in the apartment with Mattson was not there at the time the search warrant was carried out, Lancaster said.

He said the investigation is continuing and once the case is reviewed by the District Attorney’s Office, the number of people charged may increase. There has been an ongoing investigation involving cocaine, heroin and controlled pills reportedly being sold in and around Somerset County, Lancaster said.

The investigation is a collaboration with the Waterville Police Department, the Fairfield Police Department and the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency.
