Clearly, the error by the Portland City Clerk’s Office – requiring a public hearing 90 days before the election in order for the Portland renters’ initiative to make the November ballot – is easily fixed.
To lend fairness to the outraged citizens who rent and all who support them, the new rule, wisely and immediately employed, should change the unworkable, unacceptable 90-day requisite to 75 days, thus allowing the democratic process to go forward. Easy to do.
