Two years ago, at-large Portland City Councilor Jill Duson opposed then-Mayor Mike Brennan for re-election and endorsed Ethan Strimling’s bid to oust him.

Now, just a year and a half into Mayor Strimling’s term, Councilor Duson says she can’t work with him either. At the Aug. 7 City Council workshop, she said that she won’t even meet with the mayor. Enough is enough. I’m tired of people in City Hall saying they refuse to meet with this person or that person. As a small-business owner, I have to work with people I don’t like personally all the time.

That’s why I’m supporting Bree LaCasse for the at-large seat on the City Council. Bree proved through her stewardship of Congress Square Park that she can work with everyone to solve problems, from Congress Street business owners to homeless members of our community. She refuses to get bogged down in petty bickering, and she doesn’t refuse to meet with people over petty disagreements. That’s the kind of leadership Portland City Hall is desperately in need of right now.
