The three finalists for Maine’s Teacher of the Year are from York, Piscataquis and Penobscot counties, officials said Thursday.

• Jennifer England, an English teacher at Noble High School in North Berwick, developed a program for at-risk students at the school and oversees senior projects.

• Katilin Young, a music and choral teacher at SeDoMoCha Elementary School in Dover-Foxcroft, has grown the school’s music program and gives free private lessons to students, in addition to participating in other extracurricular events. The district includes students from Sebec, Dover-Foxcroft, Monson and Charleston.

• Kasie Giallombardo is a social studies teacher at Nokomis High School in Newport. Principal Mary Nadeau said her work there represents the “art and science” of teaching, with effective strategies for student learning.

The finalists will now have interviews and a school site visit before the teacher of the year is announced in a surprise all-assembly event at their school sometime in October.

This story was corrected at 8:45 p.m. Aug.24 to say that Noble High School is in North Berwick.
