BIDDEFORD  —  The body of a 53-year-old woman who was missing after a boat overturned has been recovered.

A 21-foot cuddy cabin capsized around 10:40 this morning in Biddeford Pool, according to Coast Guard Spokesman Petty Officer Andrew Barresi.  Four people were aboard the boat and were not wearing life jackets, said Barresi.

One of the passengers on the boat fired a handgun into the air to notify others they were in distress, said Barresi. A good Samaritan rescued three of the passengers, he said.

Around 2:30 p.m. divers from the Maine Marine Patrol found the body of the 53-year-old woman, said Barresi.

The Coast Guard dispatched a lifeboat as well as two air units. Scarborough and Saco fire departments sent marine patrol units and the Biddeford police department assisted.
