Jim Harbaugh and Jim McElwain are going to find out what each other’s team looks like Saturday in Texas.

Harbaugh, Michigan’s head coach, said Monday he has no plans to announce his starting quarterback for Saturday’s season opener against the Gators in Arlington, Texas.

Why? Because he doesn’t have to. And because Florida hasn’t, either.

“I have not heard Florida announce who their starting quarterback will be. We’d love to have that information,” Harbaugh said. “So no, we’re not announcing our starting quarterback.

“People have made a big deal about our roster or not announcing a starting quarterback. I have not seen a starting quarterback (announced at) Florida. Never any mention of that. Very interesting.”

Earlier this month, Harbaugh said the quarterback battle had come down to returning starter Wilton Speight and fifth-year senior backup John O’Korn. Redshirt freshman Brandon Peters was in the mix when camp began, but Speight and O’Korn appeared to separate themselves as time wore on.

Speight threw for 2,538 yards, 18 touchdowns and 7 interceptions in 12 starts last year. He was No. 2 in the Big Ten in completion percentage at 61.6. O’Korn started one game (vs. Indiana) due to Speight’s shoulder injury. For the year he appeared in eight games, going 20 of 34 for 173 yards and two touchdowns.

McElwain, meanwhile, has also refused to announce a starter, going as far as saying that three quarterbacks (Malik Zaire, Feleipe Franks and Luke Del Rio) could all see time against the Wolverines.

n Michigan unveiled an all-maize uniform scheme to wear against Florida. It’s unknown if this will be a one-time situation or something Michigan brings back throughout the year.

Florida also will wear special uniforms for the game, going all blue.

THE BRIGHAM Young-Louisiana State game will be played Saturday night at the Superdome in New Orleans after massive flooding in Houston from Hurricane Harvey forced it to be relocated from NRG Stadium.

Finding a stadium to play the neutral-site game was in the hands of ESPN and AdvoCare Texas Kickoff organizers who wanted to find a place that allowed convenient access to at least some fans already holding tickets.

LOUISVILLE: Junior wide receiver and special teams captain Devante Peete will miss the season with a torn right ACL.

TEXAS TECH: The team will honor Spike Dykes, its former coach who died April 10 at age 79, with decals on the helmets for every game this season.

The stickers will feature an image of Dykes getting doused with water after a victory and the phrase “I Like Spike,” a popular saying for Tech fans during his 13 seasons leading the program. Left in 1999.

THE BROYLES Award that honors college football’s top assistant coach added the Football Writers Association of America to its selection process, and named Hall of Fame coach and player Steve Spurrier, and former Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops to its selection committee.

IOWA: Quarterback Nathan Stanley was listed as the starter for Saturday’s opener against Wyoming.

Stanley, a sophomore, spent the offseason competing with junior Tyler Wiegers for the opening left by C.J. Beathard’s graduation.

NORTH CAROLINA STATE: The team won’t have starting cornerback Mike Stevens for Saturday’s opener against South Carolina in Charlotte, North Carolina, due to a lower-leg injury.

KENT STATE: Coach Paul Haynes is taking a medical leave of absence and is expected to return in two to three weeks.
