FALMOUTH — Nate Arrants scored on a pass from Tom Fitzgerald to give Falmouth a 1-0 victory against Cheverus in its first SMAA boys’ soccer game Tuesday night.

The Yachtsmen (1-0) were longtime members of the Western Maine Conference before switching to the Class A SMAA this season.

The game was shortened to one half because of lightning. As long as a complete half is played, no replay is needed in Maine high school soccer.

Fitzgerald brought the ball down the right side and crossed over the top of the defense to Arrants breaking in alone. Arrants bounced the ball off the post and into the right corner.

Alvaro Fuentes had three saves for Falmouth. Harrison Bell finished with five for the Stags (1-1).
