Only 2 percent of U.S. high school athletes go on to play collegiate sports at schools that offer athletic scholarships, according to the NCAA. In Maine, nearly 100 high school students from the class of 2017 will play college sports at the highest levels. The Maine Sunday Telegram surveyed coaches and athletic administrators across the state to come up with the following list of 2017 high school graduates who will compete in sports at NCAA Division I or II schools, the only institutions that can offer athletic aid to students.
