KENNEBUNK — “If you don’t have a dream, how you gonna make a dream come true.” These lyrics from a song in the musical South Pacific helped inspire writer/artist Steve Hrehovcik to follow his dream of a career in the theater.

He describes the adventurous journey he traveled in his book Rebel Without A Clue – A Way-Off Broadway Memoir. Hrehovcik makes a presentation about his book at The Center in Kennebunk at 1 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 21.

Combining a serious outlook with comic overtones, Hrehovcik’s memoir dramatizes how his search often led to surprising new discoveries.

Never giving up, his story reveals how he managed to achieve a few surprising triumphs along the way – most important, a marriage of 51 years, three remarkable children and a wonderful grandson.

As part of his presentation, Hrehovcik shows cartoons he drew that appear at the end of each chapter to add fun to the theme of his story.

In addition to his memoir, Hrehovcik has written more than 700 feature articles for newspapers, magazines and business publications. Among them are personal profiles, historical events, art exhibits, theater reviews and humorous personal accounts.

He has also written movie scripts, comedy stage plays, musical reviews and a comedy television travel show featured on the Maine Public Broadcasting Network.  He also writes poetry and is working on a musical comedy.
