BIDDEFORD — Six different players found the back of the cage as the University of New England cruised to a 6-0 victory over Wellesley College in field hockey action Sunday afternoon (Sep. 17) at the Big Blue Turf.

The Nor’easters (5-1) have piled up 23 goals during their current four-game winning streak, and are averaging 5.0 per contest so far in 2017.

With their first setback in four outings, the Blue slip back to 4-2 on the season.

UNE dominated the 1st half of play, blocking Wellesley’s only shot attempt in the early-going and then putting four tallies on the board. The go-ahead marker went to Brooke Lemerise off a feed from Becky Zakorchemny in the 14th minute, and Hannah Buckley (Leominster, Mass.) redirected a push by Marge Gardiner in the 19th to make it 2-0. In the 28th, Olivia Madore (Lyman, Maine) and Kersey Boulay connected for one [Watch], and that pair switched roles for another off a penalty-corner set, moments after the halftime buzzer sounded.

Kendra MacDonald converted a pass from Sydney Liptak in the 41st minute [Watch], and Zakorchemny tucked in a rebound in the 66th to conclude the offensive production.

For the Nor’easters in goal, Liz Sargent posted five second-half saves for her second shutout of the year. Her counterpart from Wellesley, Janelle Sullivan (Philadelphia, Pa.), made nine stops.

UNE, which is receiving votes in the latest National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division III Top 20 Poll, resumes its Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) docket on Tuesday (7 p.m.) at Endicott College.

Wellesley is slated to host Smith College on Saturday.
