KENNEBUNK — Are you ready for some Thursday night football?

In a rare occurrence, there will be two high school football games held tonight. The Kennebunk Rams will host Brunswick in a varsity football clash. The game, which is a rematch from last year’s state championship game which Brunswick won, is scheduled for a 6 p.m. start.

Kennebunk comes into the game with a perfect 4-0 record, while the visiting Dragons are in a rebuilding year and are currently 0-4 on the season.

The other high school game being played tonight is a freshmen football game between historic rivals Biddeford and Thornton Academy.

Both Biddeford and TA freshmen teams had their games scheduled for this week canceled, so the athletic directors from both schools set up a game between the Golden Trojans and Tigers.

The game will be held at 6:15 p.m. at Waterhouse Field.

The two varsity football teams played each other in the Battle of the Bridge game 97 times from 1893 to 2014, but the series would come to an end when Biddeford switched from Class A to Class B because of declining enrollment.

While tonight’s game will not be a varsity contest, it will still be a battle between two of the oldest football rivals in the entire nation.
