WELLS — Habitat for Humanity of York County has received a grant of $20,000 from The Joseph and Anna C. Dias Family Foundation to support Habitat’s Quarry Road Build in Wells and the Habitat ReStore in Kennebunk.

Charles and Shannon Carter and their two young sons have been chosen as the Habitat Partner Family for the Quarry Road Build.

The support from the Joseph and Anna C. Dias Family Foundation assists Habitat for Humanity York County in building the Carter’s energy-efficient, accessible home and addressing affordable housing challenges in York County.

Design for the Carter’s home include features that make the home wheelchair accessible including no-step entries, wider doorways and hallways, an open floor plan, and roll-in shower.

The Habitat ReStore in Kennebunk is a nonprofit home improvement store and donation center. The ReStore sells new and gently used wooden furniture, appliances, building materials, hardware, cabinets and more to the public at a fraction of the retail price.

The purpose of the ReStore is to contribute to the affordable housing work of Habitat for Humanity York County. Shopping, donating or volunteer at the ReStore supports the vital work of building affordable housing in York County.

“We are thankful for the continued support of The Joseph and Anna C. Dias Foundation in helping families like the Carter’s achieve homeownership, stability and community connection,” said Amy D. Nucci, Habitat for Humanity of York County’s Executive Director. “Strengthening the ReStore benefits Habitat and the York County community by continuously funding Habitat’s affordable housing mission. The ReStore offers a direct link for community members to support affordable housing in York County through donations, shopping and volunteering.”

Foundation Representative Janice Dias agreed.

“My uncle, Joseph Dias, was a resident of Massachusetts but developed an affinity for Maine while stationed here during WWll,” she said.  “He owned a condominium in Wells and vacationed here for decades.  He created the foundation to improve the lives of children and we are pleased to assist in building a home for the Carter Family”

For more information about volunteering or donating to the build or to the ReStore, visit: www.habitatyorkcounty.org or call the Habitat office at 985-4850.

The ReStore is open Wednesday through Saturdays 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
