LISBON — Scott Gaiason is the Democrats’ choice to run for the vacant House District 56 seat in a special election Nov. 7.

Gaiason and fellow Democrat Scott Hall both announced their intent to run before a caucus Sunday.

Discussion during the question and answer period touched on education, revenue sharing and the opioid epidemic, among other issues.

The vote was held by secret ballot, then tallied by caucus leaders and the candidates. Gaiason took two-thirds of the vote for the nomination.

“I’m excited and ready to jump in and run a vigorous campaign,” said Gaiason.

“I’m going to put my weight and efforts behind my, friend Scott Gaiason,” said Hall.

Gaiason will square off against Republican Rick Mason, who was chosen by the party last week to fill the seat vacated when Mason’s wife, Gina Crafts Mason, died unexpectedly early in September.
