WATERBORO — The Massabesic field hockey team topped visiting Westbrook 2-1 on Thursday to move into first place in the Class A South.

The Blue Blazes came out aggressive in the first half, and took the lead midway through the period when Alexis Witham scored on a pass from Morgan LeBeau. Sarah Storehouse would tie things up at 1-1 when she scored with just 1:23 remaining in the half on an Emma Rutledge pass.

Camryn Champlin would score on a pass from Lydia Wasina less than five minutes into the second half to give the Mustangs to advantage, which they were able to maintain the rest of the way.

Massabesic’s Mady Pomerleau racked up 11 saves in the cage while Westbrook’s Kimmy Goddard made eight stops.

Kennebunk 5, Marshwood 0

The Rams picked up a shutout win over Marshwood on Thursday afternoon.

Kaylee Gregoire would give the Rams the early 1-0 advantage with a goal less than four minutes into play. Christine Jarowicz added a goal of her own six minutes later to give Kennebunk the 2-0 advantage at half.

The Rams didn’t slow down as Caitlin Whalen, Britney Gregoire and Jarowicz scored in the second half to secure the win.

Biddeford 5, Portland 0

The Tigers continued to stay hot as they shut out Portland on Thursday afternoon.

Biddeford put the game out of reach early, taking a 4-0 lead into halftime.

Peyton McKeown led the way for Biddeford, scoring two goals. Paige Laverriere and Abby Allen each scored a goal and an assist, while Katie Monson scored a goal of her own, assisted by Hailey Allen.

Biddeford goalie Taylor Wildes finished with four saves.

Thornton Academy 3, Gorham 1

The Trojans pushed past Gorham 3-1 on Thursday afternoon.

The score was tied 1-1 at the half, but the Trojans came out strong in the second and got two goals from Taylor Ouellette to secure the win. Lily Stark scored for TA in the first half.

Madi Vachon made two stops in the cage for TA.

Biddeford 3, Massabesic 0

The Tigers cruised to a win over visiting Massabesic on Thursday.

Biddeford won 25-8, 25-15, and 25-18. Stephanya Kaminski led the way with five aces for Biddeford.

Boys Soccer                                     

Massabesic 2, Noble 0

The Mustangs picked up a 2-0 decision over Noble on Thursday.

After a scoreless first half, the Mustangs would get a goal from Noah Perry on a penalty kick midway through the second, then another goal from Dilan McEnearney that was assisted by Nicholas Merry.

Massabesic’s Joshua Castonguay recorded eight saves for the Mustangs.
