Maine State Police are investigating the death of an infant in Standish, but said the death does not appear suspicious.

Investigators will await the results of an autopsy, which has not been scheduled, said Stephen McCausland, a spokesman for the state police. The 7-month-old boy was found unresponsive Monday morning, he said.

The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office said they called state police to investigate when the death was called in at 4:55 a.m. from an address on Clearview Drive.

“I want to stress, simply because state police is involved in the death of the child does not mean that a crime has occurred,” McCausland said. “We will investigate the circumstances of the death and that is what’s taking place now.”

McCausland did not know whether there were other children in the home, or if the Maine Department of Health and Human Services had been notified. He said the parents are cooperating fully.
