A dynamic mental-health system strengthens Maine’s families. However, our mental health system lacks appropriate community-based and inpatient resources to the point that emergency rooms and jails have become the places where individuals are treated. We can do better than this, but we must do it together.
Maine lacks the capacity to treat individuals who are ready to step down from hospital-level care as they transition back into the community. Democrats, Republicans and the Le-Page administration all agree there needs to be some type of facility built. Three years have been lost to political debating when parents, peers and advocates could come to a consensus in a few months. Can we please make this happen together?
