Insanity is considered doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.
In 2002, the city of Portland petitioned the state to fund renovations to Lyseth, Longfellow, Presumpscot and Reiche elementary schools. The state refused to provide funding, and the schools deteriorated.
In 2005, the city petitioned the state to fund renovations to these schools. Again, the state refused to provide funding, and the schools deteriorated further.
In 2011, the city petitioned the state to fund renovations to these schools. Again, the state refused to provide funding, and the schools deteriorated further.
It is insanity to continue expecting the state to fund renovations to these schools while their condition worsens. This November, Portlanders should vote “yes” on local Question 3 to fund renovations to all four schools and vote “no” on Question 4, which cuts out Longfellow and Reiche and continues to rely on the state for funding.
