It’s well known Portland has a serious lack of affordable housing. We at the Portland Housing Authority live with this every day as we work with the thousands of families on our waiting list, some of whom have waited many years for assistance and a home they can afford.
The change proposed in Question 2 on the Portland ballot will severely limit the affordable housing that can be built, making this problem far worse. The only way to resolve this shortage, and the problems that go along with it, is to build more housing.
Adding to the supply will moderate rents, promote economic growth, relieve congestion on roads into Portland and allow families of all incomes to live and work in Portland. The city’s existing code and rigorous review process already ensure quality project design and extensive neighborhood input.
Portland’s Question 2 is just bad public policy. Please vote no.
