MEDFORD, Mass. — No. 7 Bowdoin scored two second-half goals on its way to a 2-1 upset of No. 2 Tufts in the New England Small College Athletic Conference field hockey quarterfinals Saturday.

The Polar Bears improved to 10-6 and advanced to play No. 1 Middlebury in the semifinals next Saturday in Middlebury, Vermont.

Emma Stevens scored the winning goal 18 minutes into the second half with an assist from Kara Finnerty.

Elizabeth Bennewitz scored early in the second half for Bowdoin to tie the game at 1-1.

Mary Kate Preston gave Tufts a 1-0 halftime lead.

Maddie Ferrucci had five saves for Bowdoin, while Emily Polinski made three saves for Tufts.

MIDDLEBURY 4, BATES 1: Grace Jennings scored twice as the top-seeded Panthers (14-2) beat the No. 8 Bobcats (9-7) in a NESCAC quarterfinal in Middlebury, Vermont.

Emma Johns put Middlebury ahead 6:06 into the game. Jennings scored her first goal at 31:23.

Taylor Lough scored for Bates in the 52nd minute, but Jennings answered less than two minutes later. Marrisa Baker added a late goal.

Adelae Durand made five saves for Bates.

WOMEN’S SOCCER

ST. JOSEPH’S (Maine) 4, ST. JOSEPH’S (Conn.) 0: The Monks (13-5-1) scored three second-half goals on their way to a Great Northeast Conference quarterfinal win over the Blue Jays (9-6-1) in Standish.

Emily DeLuca, Sarah Comtois, Haley DaGraca and Lauren Stiles scored for the Monks, who will play top-seeded Lasell in the semifinals on Tuesday.

Brooke Troup had three saves for the Monks.

WESTERN NEW ENGLAND 2, UNIVERSITY OF NEW ENGLAND 0: Maddie Morgan scored 1:49 into the game and the third-seeded Golden Bears (10-7-2) beat the No. 6 Nor’easters (8-9-2) in a Commonwealth Coast Conference quarterfinal in Springfield, Massachusetts.

Brooke Labrie extended the lead to 2-0 with an unassisted goal at 35:19.

WILLIAMS 4, BOWDOIN 0: Victoria Laino scored twice in the first half as the top-seeded Ephs (14-1-1) beat the No. 8 Polar Bears (9-6-1) in a NESCAC quarterfinal in Williamstown, Massachusetts.

Rachel Stout made six saves for Bowdoin.

EASTERN CONNECTICUT STATE 2, SOUTHERN MAINE 0: Maggie Bodington and Kaley Pratt scored to lead the Warriors (8-7-3, 6-0-1 Little East) over the Huskies (5-12, 1-6) in Mansfield, Connecticut.

Taylor Canastra made eight saves for Southern Maine.

NEW HAMPSHIRE TECH 4, SOUTHERN MAINE C.C. 0: Maura Hart scored twice and the Lynx (13-0-1, 6-0-1 Yankee Small College Conference) defeated the Seawolves (6-5-1, 4-2-1) in Concord, New Hampshire.

Shae Couture recorded six saves for SMCC.

WOMEN’S HOCKEY

NEW HAMPSHIRE 2, MAINE 1: Carlee Turner and Julia Fedeski scored in the first period to lead the Wildcats (5-1-1, 3-1-1 Hockey East) over the Black Bears (5-3, 1-1) in Durham, New Hampshire.

Michelle Weis scored 3:41 into the first period to put Maine ahead.

ENDICOTT 3, SOUTHERN MAINE 0: Michaela McNamara, Lauren Ferriuolo and Lexi Klein scored for the Gulls, who had one goal per period and won an opener in Beverly, Massachusetts.

USM goalie Britney Evangelista stopped 45 shots. Endicott’s Vendela Jonsson made 24 saves.
