Portland’s Question 2 will be detrimental to our city.

Question 2 on Portland’s municipal ballot would prevent a zone change from being approved by the City Council if 25 percent of residents, living within 500 feet, sign a document opposing the change. Because the referendum is retroactive to May 2017, this referendum would give neighbors veto power over a vast range of projects already in the works around the city.

Improved and updated zoning laws are needed and necessary to address housing, transportation and various development projects, but Question 2 isn’t the fix. Question 2 will be detrimental to the growth of Portland and deter needed building in Portland.

I urge you to vote “no” on Question 2 and allow Portland to continue to make progress.
