LISBON

Two cats were killed in a fire in Lisbon that damaged a home on Patterson Street late Friday morning.

A neighbor reported seeing smoke coming from the residence at 5 Patterson St. at 11:15 a.m.

Lisbon Deputy Fire Chief Bob Robitaille said the residents weren’t home at the time of the fire. When firefighters arrived there was moderate smoke coming from the first floor. The fire was in the basement and firefighters were able to contain it to one corner of the basement where there was only moderate damage. The house is structurally sound, he said.

Lisbon police officers were on scene first and were able to rescue a dog in the residence. There were two cats in the basement who died from smoke inhalation, Robitaille said.

The fire is still under investigation but does not appear suspicious. Robitaille planned to contact the fire marshal’s office for help determining the exact cause.

According to the town’s property cards, the home is owned by Michael Polakowski.
