BATH — Tri-County Literacy will sponsor its first annual Candy Cane Festival Saturday, Dec. 9, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Bath Middle School, 6 Old Brunswick Rd., Bath. Tickets are $5.50 in advance and $7.00 at the door. Children under 2 are free. All proceeds will go toward the organization’s mission “to improve lives through literacy.”

Advance tickets are available starting today at tricountyliteracy.org.

The event will replace the Candy Cane Train event, which Tri-County Literacy has hosted for the past eleven years. The day will include magic shows, pictures with Santa, a visit with Mrs. Claus, reading with Santa’s elves, interactive play with model trains set up by Maine 3 Railers, carols by the Noreasters Barbershop Chorus, free trolley rides, raffles, and face painting. Hot chocolate and cookies are free, and pizza, hot dogs, and other refreshments will be available for sale.

Tri-County Literacy is a nonprofit organization serving adults and children in Cumberland, Sagadahoc, and Lincoln counties. During the past year, TLC helped more than 750 people in 40 towns with two programs: Read With Me, a family literacy program, and Literacy Volunteers for adult learners.
