BRUNSWICK — The American Red Cross is asking Mainers to donate blood.

The organization says a decline in donations occurs from Thanksgiving to New Year’s Day when donors are busy with holiday activities and travel.

Every two seconds, someone in the U.S. needs blood, according to the Red Cross.

Blood donation appointments can be made by downloading the free Red Cross Blood Donor App, visiting redcrossblood.org or calling 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733- 2767).
