A TRUCK rolled over on Montsweag Road in Woolwich Tuesday morning as it turned off Route 1.

WOOLWICH

Montsweag Road in Woolwich was closed for three hours Tuesday after a concrete truck rolled over when its driver attempted to navigate a sharp turn just before 10 a.m., according to the Sagadahoc County Sheriff ’s Office.

Lt. Brian Quinn with the sheriff ’s office said the Auburn Concrete truck was driven by Travis Oakes, 23, of Wilton.

Woolwich Fire Chief Michael Demers said the truck’s drum was half-full at the time.

Quinn said Oakes was driving the truck north on Route 1 and tried to make a sharp turn onto Montsweag Road. As he made the turn, gravity pushed the concrete to the left side of the drum, causing the truck to tip.

Members of the Maine State Police commercial vehicles unit responded to inspect the truck and found nothing wrong with it, Quinn said.

Firefighters contained an oil leak and small fuel spill.

Oakes was not hospitalized. He was cited for a traffic infraction.

While Montsweag Road was closed for approximately three hours, the crash didn’t affect Route 1 traffic.
