NEW HIRES
Hale Melnick and Alexander Porter were hired as associates at Verrill Dana. Both previously served as summer associates.
Melnick previously served as a judicial intern to the Honorable Paul J. Barbadoro of the U.S. District Court for the District of New Hampshire. He was later a judicial extern to the Honorable O. Rogeriee Thompson of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit.
Porter is a former legislative aide to U.S. Sen. Angus King. Previously, he worked as a judicial intern for U.S. District Court Judge Jon Levy for the District of Maine.

 

 

Elizabeth Hunt joined Murray Plumb & Murray as a partner.
Hunt will focus on areas of trust and estate planning and administration. In addition, she will help clients with business and corporate law and real estate, finance and real estate succession planning.
Most recently, she worked at McLane Middleton in New Hampshire.

Sage Friedman also joined the firm as an attorney.
Friedman served as a clerk for the firm in 2016, and returned after his recent graduation from the University of Maine School of Law. He brings more than 15 years of business experience as an entrepreneur and a consultant in New York City and Maine.
For the last nine years, Friedman was a principal at Fire Lane 17, a Maine company that offered long-term consulting services to select entrepreneurs, investors and small businesses.

Meryl Poulin joined Preti Flaherty’s litigation practice in its Portland office.
Poulin graduated from the University of Maine School of Law in 2017.

Eliza Mette of Portland joined Kozak & Gayer P.A., in Augusta where she will maintain a general health law practice.
Mette recently graduated from the University of Maine School of Law, where she received the school’s Health Law Award.

BOARD APPOINTMENTS

Sarah Yantakosol Gayer, an attorney at Thompson Bowie & Hatch, was appointed chair of the American Bar Association Admiralty and Maritime Law Committee.
Gayer will serve a one-year term. She practices admiralty and maritime law and professional liability defense in Portland.

 

Peter Schroeter, an attorney at Shaheen & Gordon P.A., was selected as chair of the Maine State Bar Association’s Alternative Dispute Section.
Schroeter, who serves as counsel at the firm’s Saco and Portland offices, has more than 35 years of legal experience as a trial lawyer and mediator.

Berman & Simmons received a Tier 1 ranking by U.S. News – Best Lawyers.
